Lineside vegetation clearance & P1 footway construction, Whipps Farm Phase 1

Remit
Engaged by QTS Group Ltd to deliver Phase 1 de-vegetation and footway works at Whipps Farm on Network Rail’s Anglia route: clearance of dense lineside vegetation, scrub and trees along the full footpath corridor, controlled felling and dismantling of trees within the collapse radius of the operational line, stump grinding, and formation of a new 2m wide Type P1 footway with seeding over approximately 1,600 linear metres.
Delivery
Working from the trading estate end, our NPTC, PTS and CPCS qualified teams progressed the clearance and footway formation in a continuous sequence - fell, process, grind, prepare, form and seed - so that completed footway followed close behind the clearance face. Vegetation was cut back overhead through the wooded section to form a clear working tunnel held strictly to the 2m width, minimising arboricultural impact and reducing arisings.
Trees within falling distance of the railway were sectionally dismantled by our climbing teams rather than straight felled, keeping the operational line protected without extending possession working across the scheme. With a known history of plant theft in the area, machinery was demobilised and returned to the site compound at the end of every shift throughout the programme.

Outcome
A dense, largely inaccessible lineside corridor converted into a fully formed and seeded 1,600m footway in a three-week programme, delivered on time with the railway protected throughout.
